Mike graduated from Ohio State University in 1975 and started work that same year at Wooster’s OARDC/OSU in the Entomology Dept. My work was centered on insect pests of trees and shrubs and I became very interested in Christmas tree production. I had visited several Christmas tree farms and did research on insect pests on those farms as well.
Sue graduated from Ohio State University, as well, and her degree was in Elementary Education. Teaching jobs were hard to find so she substituted for several years before getting a library position at OARDC/OSU. She later was hired by The College of Wooster in the library as ‘Preservation Specialist’ in book repair.
We are now both retired from our vocations, but actually working harder at a variety of things we love to do; which includes growing Christmas trees. Our kids have grown up and we now have some very special grand kids who live in Montana.
We are a 'cut-your-own' tree farm. Handsaws are available on-site to use or bring your own handsaw (traditional or electric). Chainsaws CANNOT be used. If you need assistance cutting a tree, ask our staff for help.
The tree farm is found by walking the path behind the Dunlap house and across the bridge. From there, you are free to search and find a tree to cut.
Our staff will be riding on a four-wheeler with a cart. Once you cut down a tree, they will take your tree to the front of the house for you.
Trees cut have the option of being shaken and baled. Shaking is highly recommended because it shakes loose any dead needles, insects, or bird nests! Baling is available for an extra $2.00.
Forms of payment accepted: Cash, Check (made payable to 'Family Tree Farm' or 'Mike Dunlap'), and Credit/Debit card.
Twine is available to tie down trees on your car for the road. If you need assistance, our staff will be happy to help secure your load.
